Abby Clayton

I am a teacher-scholar with a commitment to increasing the accessibility of a humanities education. I am dedicated to helping all students ask and answer deep questions about society and their own lives. Through strategies such as inquiry-driven and adaptive pedagogy, and ungrading and self-evaluation, I invite students to take personal stake in their learning.

I am currently an advanced PhD candidate in English at Indiana University Bloomington. I write and teach about archives, news media, and national identity, especially from the nineteenth century to today. My work has been generously funded by organizations such as the American Antiquarian Society and the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals. My most recent publications can be found in Victorian Review and on JSTOR Daily. Additionally, I have over five years of professional editorial experience, which includes my tenure as Managing Editor of Victorian Studies
